FIRST MUSTER: The first muster of militia troops in the continental United States took place on September 16, 1565, in the newly established Spanish presidio town of St. Augustine.

ASSAULT ON FORT MOSE: Fort Mose was a plastered earthen fort three miles north of St. Augustine established to protect the free Black settlement of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose.
