Florida Guard Family,
The month of November includes two very special holidays which remind us to reflect on our blessings – Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. As a proud American and member of our great organization, I can’t celebrate either one without giving thanks for all of you who have been brave enough to answer the call to service. You have spent time away from loved ones to serve abroad and at home, and have stepped up time and again without hesitation to see the mission accomplished.
This year, we as Floridians experienced a major disaster like we have not seen since 2005. Governor Scott called more than 7,000 of you to the aid of our citizens during Hurricane Irma – a call that came during the orders for some of your own families to evacuate. A call that gave purpose to your training. A call to send you into the storm’s path in order to save lives. Together, you did what we do best. Because of you, the nation looks to Florida as a model of what National Guard disaster response should be. I can’t express how thankful I am to Work For You!
When I give thanks for the blessings in my life, I count how privileged I am to work for such a great family of Guardsmen. Thank you for being the embodiment of what it means to serve a purpose greater than yourself. Take the time on this holiday to reflect on what you are grateful for and let your loved ones know how important they are to you and us. Happy Thanksgiving!
