Florida National Guard Family,
As we come to the end of another year, I am once again reminded how fortunate I am to be a part of this extraordinary family. Sophia and I couldn’t be more proud of all you’ve accomplished for our state and nation, and we can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2019.
This year we felt the brunt of a hurricane yet again – this time one of the most powerful storms to ever make landfall in the United States. Hundreds of our FLNG families were personally impacted by Hurricane Michael, and nearly 4,000 of you responded to help. We still have Guardsmen struggling in the aftermath of the storm, some of whom have reported back for duty but are separated from their families due to the ongoing recovery in the Panhandle. I commend them for their service and professionalism, and pray for their families as they cope with their continued difficult road ahead.
We also have about 400 Soldiers and Airmen deployed around the globe right now, and another 1,500 preparing for deployment in the coming year. These brave warriors and their families are making significant sacrifices to safeguard our country and our way of life, so please send them all your warmest thoughts and prayers.
Thank you all for being the devoted citizen Soldiers, Airmen and Civilians you are every day. Always remember, no matter what job you perform, you play a direct role in getting the mission done. So take care of yourselves, and take care of each other. If you’re traveling, please be careful as this is one of the busiest travel times of the year. Take the appropriate measures to return safely – we need each and every one of you in our formation!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families — God bless you, the great state of Florida, and the United States of America.
