Sequestration and Continuing Resolution Update – Jan 18, 2013

I’m certain that all of you have been monitoring the news and know that our country continues to deal with tough economic challenges.  Our military is facing even more risk operating under a Continuing Resolution and implementing funding cuts that would result if Sequestration is not reversed.  It’s too soon, at this point, to forecast the specific impacts.

In the past couple of days, we received initial planning guidance to prepare for reductions.  We are assessing this guidance, and are awaiting additional information to complete our assessment.  We anticipate that we will be required to implement reductions in several areas.  I will ensure that we provide current information to you regarding the impact as we gather facts and formulate the way ahead.

This is not the first time we have faced significant budget challenges, and we will find solutions that place our highest priority on taking care of our Florida Guard Family.   If we must take steps that affect employment of our people, my commitment to you is to use every resource available, to include our own Florida Guard Family Career Connection and programs provided by the State of Florida to assist Service Members, Civilians and Family Members.

Thank you for your service.

Emmett R. Titshaw Jr.
Major General
The Adjutant General of Florida
