Sequestration and Continuing Resolution Update – March 25, 2013

Florida National Guard Team

There have been several media reports since Friday that indicated that the Florida National Guard, along with 20 other states, errantly issued furlough notifications on Friday.  As you know from my message last Thursday evening, 21 March, we delayed furlough notification by two weeks in accordance with guidance we received late in the day.

No one in the Florida National Guard is under official furlough notification.  This will not occur until a signed verification of employee notification is received and formally documented by our Human Resources Office.  This has not, and will not happen until at least 5 April 2013, according to our latest guidance.  Accordingly, a furlough would not be implemented until at least 30 days after notification.

This 2-week delay will allow the Department of Defense to evaluate impacts of the Continuing Resolution legislation, and potentially provide more flexibility for us to execute our budgets in accordance with our priorities.

My commitment to you is to ensure we keep you updated on the most current and correct information.  It’s tempting to believe things you read and hear in the media, but I urge you not to consider anything official unless you hear it directly from the Florida National Guard.

Please continue to monitor our webpage (http://www.floridaguard.army.mil), Twitter (www.twitter.com/FLGuard) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/FloridaNationalGuard) for the latest information.

Thank you for your patience, and always for your service.

Emmett R. Titshaw Jr.
Major General
The Adjutant General of Florida
