Sustained commitment

Florida Guard Team,

May is Military Appreciation Month, and I would like to take a moment to thank each of you and your families for your sustained commitment to our state and nation.  As we kicked off the month last week, members of our team were already in motion to provide support to our citizens whose lives and property were imperiled by heavy rain and flooding in the Florida Panhandle.

Over 75 members from several of our transportation and engineer units used various high water vehicles to access flooded areas and bring relief to those in need.  I’m proud to say that our team was in place within a few hours of notification, and they safely accomplished every mission assigned.   Once again, we demonstrated the unique capability that the National Guard brings to any disaster response.  Our long-standing partnerships with other first responders, combined with our ability to rapidly deploy into our communities are the hallmarks of our domestic response success.

During this Military Appreciation Month it’s important to remember what we do for Florida and the nation, and reflect upon how we will sustain our hard-earned reputation and cultural values that have defined our profession for hundreds of years.  Each of you plays a critical role on our team, and I thank you for what you do every day to ensure we remain “Always Ready….Always There!”
