Florida Guard Family,
As a nation we will soon celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday traditionally revolving around food, family and friends. This year, I encourage you to make it more than just a day, more than just football and parades. I believe that Thanksgiving is a time for us to not only celebrate, but to remember those who made our celebrations possible. Be thankful for your family, who has steadfastly supported and reinforced your call to service. When I take time for the same reflections, I am eternally thankful for you – the men and women, Soldiers and Airmen, military and civilians – who make up the Florida National Guard family.
I am thankful for the privilege to serve all of you who have sacrificed so much for this state and country. With more than 18,400 Soldiers and Airmen of the Florida National Guard who have deployed since 9/11, many of you have spent several holidays, birthdays and special events away from your loved ones. Because of your enduring sacrifice and service to our communities and nation, future generations of Americans will be free and able to celebrate this very special holiday.
I hope you will take the time to enjoy your loved ones, and ask that you also remember all of our military men and women who are serving far from home and their families.
Thank you, and have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!
