Veterans Day 2016

Florida Guard Family,

Veterans Day has both historic and patriotic significance as we pause to show past and present Service members our appreciation for their valiant choice to serve in America’s Armed Forces.

Americans commemorated the end of World War I, “the war to end all wars,” by establishing a national day of remembrance — Armistice Day.  At that time, Chief of Staff of the Army General Peyton C. March told the recent WWI veterans that “the story of your participation in the war will inspire future generations.”  And it did…

Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen have continued to serve and inspire our nation through World War II, campaigns in Korea and Vietnam, the Cold War, and numerous deployments to the Middle East since Desert Storm.    Our Florida National Guard Team has supported nearly 20,000 such deployments since 9/11/01!

In addition to serving our nation in times of war, our FLNG Soldiers and Airmen have served their communities repeatedly with disaster recovery operations, most recently following Hurricane Matthew.

Our veterans are an integral part of the American fabric, and I encourage you to thank those who serve today and the generations who came before them. Take the time, not just today…but every day, to honor our fallen and wounded heroes, remember the missing, and recognize those who serve our nation.

Thank you for your service!
