Continuing of Funding; Remembrance

Florida Guard Team,

This was a tense week as we awaited news on a potential government shutdown at midnight on Wednesday.  As you’ve seen in the news, Congress extended the Continuing Resolution (CR) for 3 days to fund the federal government through 18 January.  Our USPFO has continued to monitor the situation and reported yesterday that federal technician and AGR pay was not impacted; however, drill pay that many of you would normally receive today will be delayed until 22 January.

The House of Representatives passed an “omnibus” bill on Wednesday that funds all 12 appropriations, to include defense, for the remainder of FY14.  The Senate passed the bill last night and the President is expected to sign it before the extended CR expires.  As currently written, the bill provides additional funding for our counterdrug mission, Youth ChalleNGe, Starbase and the National Guard and Reserve Equipment Account (NGREA).

On Monday we will honor the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose contributions toward equality and respect for all are the bedrock of our nation.  Many of you will travel over the long weekend, and I encourage you to take time to plan ahead and travel safely.  Enjoy the weekend and remember the significance of the holiday.
