Florida National Guard Team,
I had the opportunity to join Governor Scott on the “Florida Veterans Service Award Tour” this week, and was continuously inspired by the selfless service of our Guardsmen and Families. It was humbling to speak with veterans across the state who have served the state and nation with dedication and pride.
The 4th of July weekend is upon us, and many of you will celebrate the occasion with fireworks, picnics, parades, concerts and family reunions. As you travel to various events, I urge you to remain cognizant of the heightened risk on our roadways. According to AAA, 34.8 million people will travel by automobile between 2 July and 6 July. The National Safety Council (NSC) estimates there will be 385 deaths and 41,200 injuries. To help prevent injury to you and your families, please take time to review your travel plans, wear seat belts, avoid cell phone use while driving, and get plenty of rest before driving. We want everyone to return safely!
As you’re enjoying the festivities of the holiday, please take a moment to remember the sacrifices of those who passed before to make our great country what it is today, and to ensure our liberty and freedom for the future.
Happy Independence Day.
Emmett R. Titshaw Jr.
Adjutant General of Florida
